PARIS CENTER
The client wanted to evaluate the impact on traffic reports of pedestrianizing the historic center of Paris, as is already commonly experienced every Sunday when these areas are closed to traffic. The project focussed on the closure of squares in Paris center and major traffic restrictions on main streets like Rue Rivoli or Boulevard Sébastopol.
The project covered the 1st to the 4th arrondissements, as well as a small part of the 5th arrondissement, all in the heart of Paris. The study area includes important historic sites and areas of tourist interest as well as major transit and traffic routes. The team used the regional Île-de-France model in order to verify the wider impact.
Aimsun’s role was initially to build the reference situation for the project’s time horizon in order to take into account all the impacts of the planned projects. Subsequent simulation of different scenarios loosely limited to main thoroughfares allowed the team to identify different types of impact on the road traffic and to identify the transfer routes.
The Mairie de Paris was able to assess the impacts on the A86 motorway, which allowed them to determine the political impact of the solution. The simulation of several scenarios provides a field of reflection, which will lead to the most suitable solution.
Thanks to the availability of a regularly updated traffic model, both in terms of network and demand, the technical services of Mairie de Paris were able to test, through Aimsun, on constrained planning, their ideas for the historic heart of the city.
Mairie de Paris wanted an impact study of the operation of the redevelopment of the Montparnasse – Maine sector.
The project aims to study different proposals for improving the urban design of the Eiffel Tower area and provide a more pleasant space for soft modes such as pedestrians and bicycles.
