Andrew Bradshaw of Arup and Yannis Stogis of Delcan Corporation look at two specific Aimsun projects in Sheffield UK and Toronto to help explain how hardware has recently developed in a multi-processor direction. Multi-threading, if built into the software design process and not implemented as an afterthought, brings about tremendous speed improvements. This redefines what can be included in a dynamic model; be that a city centre, or a large and complex motorway network spanning hundreds of miles.
