Journalist Adrian Greeman profiled an important project employing Aimsun simulation software in New York. The article appeared in the December 2010 issue of Software for Road Infrastructure, produced by World Highways and ITS International magazines.
As a result of the major revamp of its ITS infrastructure, the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) now has the centralised data collection system necessary to set up high quality large-scale real-time simulation. As part of the multi-million-dollar investment plan, the NYCDOT commissioned KLD Associates and Greenman Pedersen Inc to implement a new Adaptive Control Decision Support System (ACDSS) prototype on two major arterials: Victory Boulevard in Staten Island and a Manhattan section of Route 9A. These two roads are to serve as a test bed with the eventual goal of a broader ACDSS application across New York City.
