New features in Aimsun Next
Aimsun Next 26 was released on 3rd December, 2025.
The highlights, listed below, are features that streamline your workflow, enhance collaboration, and deliver deeper insights across every stage of your modelling and simulation process.
MORE GOOD NEWS: we have bought back the ability to run two sessions of Aimsun Next simultaneously on one license, giving you better value, flexibility and efficiency.
01 Collaboration & User Experience
Geo Comments: Smarter teamwork, right on the map
Add geo-referenced comments directly to your project and instantly share context with your team through the cloud. Keep discussions attached to specific locations and ensure everyone stays aligned.
Introducing a Smarter, More Collaborative Check & Fix Editor
- Always-on insights: Check & Fix messages are now stored in the cloud, so your diagnostics are instantly available whenever you return—no need to re-scan your network.
- Clear progress tracking: When you run Check & Fix again, any issues that have been resolved are automatically marked as fixed, giving you a real-time view of improvements.
- Declutter your workflow: Hide what doesn’t matter. Easily mark messages as ignored to keep your workspace focused and distraction-free.
- Effortless collaboration: Add comments directly to Check & Fix messages to streamline teamwork, capture context, and keep everyone aligned.

02 Simulation Enhancements
Entry-Based Statistics
Get a more complete view of network performance with new entry-based metrics that capture all vehicles entering a segment—not just those that exit during the statistical interval.
More Realistic Micro Behavior
- New merge model for smoother, more accurate merging dynamics
- Enhanced cooperation model that introduces lane-changing behavior when assisting merging vehicles
Improved Meso Off-Ramp Logic
Vehicles now distribute more realistically across available off-ramp lanes, improving mesoscopic fidelity in complex networks.
Streamlined Dynamic Cost Functions
Dynamic simulations are now simpler and more intuitive. There’s no need to separate initial vs. dynamic cost functions or differentiate by vehicle type. A single Dynamic Cost Function intelligently adapts based on the data available—whether initial or simulated travel times, and whether vehicle-type specific or not.
Stable Random Seeds
Adding or removing centroids or transit lines no longer changes your simulation results—ensuring scenario stability and repeatability.
Smarter Hybrid Macro–Meso Modeling
We’ve introduced a new parameter—Use Travel Times from the Input Path Assignment Plan for All Vehicles. This gives you the flexibility to choose whether the macro-level vehicle costs come from your scenario’s predefined path assignment plan or from the experiment’s default route choice calculation.
In Hybrid Macro–Meso experiments using DUE, macro travel times are now sourced from the same slice in the previous iteration, ensuring more stable and consistent convergence compared to earlier versions.
Improved LOS Evaluation for Urban Sections
Level of Service calculations have been upgraded using newly introduced parameters in the urban section editor. Users can now provide richer input for more accurate and context-sensitive LOS results.
Skim Matrices as Default Output
Generate skim matrices automatically during dynamic simulations and retrieve them whenever you need them.
03 Traffic Management Upgrades
Smarter Activation Triggers
Policies can now adapt to time-of-day conditions and include minimum activation times for more realistic operational logic.
New “Periodic Call” Action
Simulate detector call patterns with the new Periodic Call action—ideal for testing signal timing or ITS strategies.
Centroid Groupings in Traffic Management
Apply traffic management strategies to groups of centroids for more controlled and clearer network interventions.
04 Static Modeling Improvements
Relative Gap Matrices
New output matrices for Static Assignment and Static OD Adjustment help you monitor convergence and performance at a glance.
Faster, More Efficient Transit Assignment
Limit the number of multi-routing options to reduce computation time while maintaining result quality.
Real Data Sets: New Static Assigned Percentage
Gain better insight into real traffic patterns with an additional data field for turns, trajectories, and subpaths.
05 Controller Integration
Aimsun Next 26 adds compatibility with two additional controller systems:
- Swarco ITC-3
- SEPAC M60
In addition, Yutraffic controllers, come now with SRM messaging and timeout configuration and the OCIT R09 Telegrams have the Train Length parameter.
06 Workflow & Productivity
Path Assignments Made Easier
Add path assignment items even before they’ve been calculated—perfect for planning scenarios in advance.
More Intuitive Four-Step Model Connections
New filtering and sorting tools make it easier to manage data flows between boxes.
New Attribute Option: Allow “None”
More flexibility when defining object attributes or custom data types.
07 Platform & Scripting
Python 3.12 Support
Stay current with an updated Python ecosystem for scripting, API workflows, and integration.
