Aimsun Next version 26.0.1 is now available, delivering a range of practical improvements focused on usability, productivity and day-to-day modelling workflows.
Aimsun Next is Aimsun’s traffic simulation and transport modelling software, helping transport planners, traffic engineers and mobility professionals analyse networks, test scenarios and make better-informed decisions. This latest release places particular emphasis on scripting reliability, licensing flexibility and workflow enhancements, helping users get more from the platform while reducing friction in everyday tasks.
One of the most significant improvements in this release is a substantial set of enhancements to the Python scripting environment. Several reported issues have been resolved, documentation has been expanded and improved, and additional functionality has been exposed through the scripting API. These updates make automation more reliable, streamline custom workflows and give advanced users easier access to model outputs and analysis tools.
The release also introduces Licenser 3.0, a major step forward in licence management. The licenser is now a separate application from Aimsun Next, allowing users to update both applications independently and benefit from the latest licensing improvements without waiting for a full software upgrade.
Licenser 3.0 has been designed to improve reliability and reduce disruption. The new version is more robust against issues that can lead to licences being lost or becoming unavailable. In the unlikely event that a licence is lost, users can now be automatically granted a replacement licence, helping minimise downtime and keep projects moving.
In addition, licences can now be checked out for longer periods than the previous 30-day limit. This provides greater flexibility for organisations running long-duration simulations, dedicated computation servers and other environments where uninterrupted access to Aimsun Next is essential, while also benefiting users who require extended access on personal devices.
Both Aimsun Next and Licenser 3.0 are now available across Windows, Mac ARM, Ubuntu 24 and Ubuntu 26, giving organisations greater flexibility when deploying modelling environments and computation servers. The expanded Linux support makes it easier for teams to standardise deployments, benefit from the latest operating system releases and run large-scale simulations on the platform that best suits their infrastructure.
Aimsun Next 26.0.1 also improves visibility during model execution. When generating a traversal, users can now follow progress through a dedicated progress bar, while start and completion messages are automatically recorded in the GUI log. These enhancements make it easier to monitor longer operations and understand exactly what the software is doing at each stage.
For public transport modelling, the transit line editor has been enhanced to make route definition easier and more intuitive. Additional improvements to the GTFS import workflow provide greater control over imported data and help streamline model preparation.
The release also delivers more flexible output management and analysis capabilities. Users can now work with skim matrices in a wider range of file formats, while new filtering and aggregation options make it easier to explore results and focus on the information that matters most. Grouping outputs have also been expanded to include minimum and maximum values alongside existing summary statistics.
Overall, Aimsun Next 26.0.1 is a usability-focused release that addresses key user feedback, strengthens scripting capabilities, modernises licence management and introduces a range of improvements that make everyday modelling work more efficient. Whether automating workflows, running long-duration simulations or developing complex transport models, users can expect a smoother and more productive experience with the latest version of Aimsun Next.
