The journey of TSS – Transport Simulation Systems and Aimsun began in 1986 with a research project carried out by LIOS, a research group at the Technical University of Catalonia (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya).

A  number of Spanish and European Union research projects later, a microscopic  simulator called Aimsun was born inside a shell called GETRAM running on UNIX. Encouraged by the DHV group, Professor Jaume Barceló of the UPC and 7 partners, among which current executive team members Jaime L. Ferrer (Managing Director), David García (Technical Director) and Dr Jordi Casas (R&D Director) decided to found TSS in 1997.

The company has a singular focus on developing and marketing transport modelling software for traffic engineering, management and operations. TSS has been steadily growing since, currently servicing over 1,500 users in 55 countries and rapidly expanding into decision support for real-time traffic management with Aimsun Online.
