AIMSUN Modeller

AIMSUN NG has been designed with three goals in mind: to be easy to use, to increase productivity and to fit in the user’s environment:

  • Data entry is as user-friendly as any of today’s modern office applications
  • Efficiency is enhanced thanks to the multiple data importers that give access to different sources of already available data.
  • It uses software standards

Novice users learn fast thanks to the use of the concepts common to graphic applications; unlimited undo and redo adds a safety net that allows the frequent errors normal during the learning process; and its flexibility turns experimentation into an exciting task difficult to avoid.

All this advantages generate time to invest in traffic engineering tasks, time which was previously consumed by data entry and manipulation.

Learning

The supplied documentation covers from the very basic operations to the complete models descriptions. Included tutorials cover the major topics such as Network edition both in 2D and 3D, simulation, transport planning operations, how to combine the two models in the same project... even a video to introduce the user to the editing capabilities of AIMSUN NG.

Documentation for expert users offers a detailed description of the full models. Nothing is hidden.

Its main function is the construction of transport models to be used by any transportation tools.

Editing Features

User-friendliness is no longer a marketing concept: In no more than one week it is possible to completely model a network with thousands of links.

  • The editor is designed for the level of detail required by regional, intermediate and local areas, which means that it can take into account highly detailed geometrical or dynamical elements such as lane flares, or VMS operation.
  • A complete set of objects to model other items, such as controllers or traffic control centre cameras, are also provided with the objective of being able to completely characterize the traffic system.

Multi-level Network representation

The most important consequence of having a Common Extensible Object Model and a Data Base shared by all of AIMSUN NG’s traffic and transport analysis models is that it allows a Multi-level Network representation; that is, for instance, the possibility of macro networks with micro details or simultaneous existence of different network alternatives within the same model.

User-friendliness and integration show its utility here again: swapping from micro to macro or from one alternative to another only requires a mouse click.

Planning Tools

The AIMSUN Planner component offers functionalities as O/D Matrix Balancing, Assignment, Adjustment, generation of Traversal O/D Matrices... In addition to the numerical results, the graphical results show at the same time different measures as the level of congestion and the volume for each section, as in the image.
